Heavy spells of rain expected in Chennai
The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasts scattered rainfall across various districts in the State, including Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai belt. The temperatures are expected to drop to a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius at both the weather stations, while another spell of rain is to continue this week.

On Tuesday, various districts including The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli, Theni, Kancheepuram, Villupuram, Kanyakumari, Ramanathapuram, Namakkal and Salem received very heavy to moderate rainfall. The Nilgiris and Coimbatore recorded the highest rainfall of 18 cm each.
RMC also issued a warning stating that heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places over The Nilgiris and Coimbatore in the next 48 hours.
On Tuesday, weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.9 degrees Celsius and 33.9 degrees Celsius respectively. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature dropped to 26 degrees Celsius and 23.8 degrees Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam respectively.
Meanwhile, the sky condition is likely to be generally cloudy in Chennai with light rain likely in some areas for the next 48 hours. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 35 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.
Weather blogger Pradeep John stated that high winds and fast-moving clouds will bring heavy rains in Kancheepuram and Chennai and spells are likely to be heavier after August 10th.
