Woman takes down chain snatcher, hands him to cops
A 24-year-old woman managed to take down a man who had snatched her gold chain, and handed him over to the police near Red Hills on Thursday night.

Vinodhini, who works at a private hospital in Gandhi Nagar, Red Hills, was walking to a bus stop after work to return home around 8 pm when two men on a bike followed her and snatched away her phone and chain. Vinodhini, however, chased the bikers on foot before it gathered speed and managed to pull off the pillion rider, said the police.
“She chased the men, got hold of the pillion rider’s t-shirt and pulled him off the bike. The rider too lost control of the bike and fell on the road. As Vinodhini held on to the pillion rider, who had snatched the chain, the rider got up and fled with the bike. As she shouted for help, passersby gathered and overpowered the suspect. The mob beat up the chain snatcher before handing him over to the police.
The Sholavaram police identified the suspect as 35-year-old Govindarajalu, a resident of from Kavangarai near Puzhal. The police noted that the accused was a repeat offender. They have launched a hunt for his associate who wasriding the bike.
Was kidnapped on bike, robbed and abandoned, claims woman
Chennai: In a similar incident in Sholavaram, the police are on the look-out for two bike-borne men who allegedly abducted a 40-year-old woman after forcing her to sit in between them on their bike. The police said that when the two tried to rob her, she cried for help. Then they forced her to sit on the bike and took her to Minjur - Vandalur Outer Ring Road, 3 km away from the scene of crime. The assailants then took away her cell phone and gold chain before fleeing. The woman then approached the police. In her complaint, she said that she was walking back home after work at 8 pm when the incident took place in a deserted stretch. After she was dumped on Outer Ring Road, she borrowed a mobile phone from a passerby and called her relatives for help. The Sholavaram police are also trying to find out the authenticity of the complaint.
