Faculty at govt colleges to soon receive English training
To improve the communication skills among the students in the government engineering and polytechnic colleges, for the first time, Tamil Nadu government will be launching a training programme for enhancing the English teaching skills for faculties in the institutions.

Accordingly, during the first phase, 50 English teaching faculty will be trained on innovative pedagogical methods to make them as a resource person to train more than 2,000 English faculty in engineering and polytechnic colleges in the State.
A senior official from the Higher Education Department told DT Next that in the global economy, an engineering student must possess good English communication skills to express his ideas and knowledge and get a placement in good organisations.
“This necessitates their English teaching faculty to be trained on the pedagogy in teaching English language,” he added.
Referring to the announcement made by Higher Education Minister KP Anbalagan in the Tamil Nadu assembly in 2019, the official said the training programme will be implemented at a cost of Rs 60 lakh per year.
“Based on the announcement, the government accorded financial sanction for organising training programme,” he said while noting that the district level training programme will also be conducted for a week at Anna University by the experts.
