Two teenagers suffered severe burns after they touched high-tension overhead power cables at Royapuram railway station on Tuesday.
Chennai
They have been admitted to the Burns ward at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
The victims were identified as Sunilkumar and Vishal, both aged 13, and residents of Chetti Thottam in Royapuram. The Korukkupet railway police, who are investigating the case, said that the boys were playing cricket nearby and came in search of the ball. “They climbed a goods carriage to look for a ball. When Sunilkumar slipped, he reached for the overhead powerline for stability. As he suffered electric shock, Vishal touched Sunilkumar and both of them were thrown off,” said the police.
Both were rushed to the Stanley Medical College Hospital and then shifted to KMC. When contacted, the police said both are critical with burn injuries all over the body.
