When the police tried to arrest the accused from their hideout, the youth stabbed a sub-inspector and slit his throat to prevent the police from securing him.

According to the police, Arokiya Mary’s husband Yesu had committed suicide in 2014 citing her relationship with a man identified as Murugan (35), a lorry driver, of Tsunami Quarters in Ennore. However, she reportedly continued her relationship with Murugan even after that.

Arokiya Mary’s son, Naresh, who asked his mother to end her relationship with Murugan, wanted to avenge his father’s death and sought the help of his brother-in-law Mariadoss to murder Murugan.

“On Tuesday, they took him to a deserted place on the pretext of consuming alcohol, slit his throat and murdered him,” said the police. The police recovered his body and sent it for autopsy.

When the police tried to secure Naresh and Mariadoss from their hideout at Annai Sivakami Nagar in Ennore, Naresh stabbed sub-inspector Karunakaran below his chest and slit his own throat. Other police personnel secured the duo, and Naresh was sent to Stanley Medical College Hospital for treatment. Karunakaran, who was admitted to a private hospital, is said to be recovering. Meanwhile, Mariadoss was remanded in judicial custody on Wednesday.
