“We are extremely happy to have him back. Around 3 am on Tuesday our neighbours called to tell us that they spotted Jackie in the area,” Sarath Ravi, Jackie’s owner told DT Next. “Somehow, I had a feeling that he would return,” Sarath said.

Apparently, people who ‘dognapped’ Jackie on Friday night had decided to return him after media, including this newspaper, highlighted the incident on Monday. “They left Jackie somewhere near the neighbourhood but not in front of our house, from where they picked him up,” Sarath, a techie working in multinational company, said.

He and his family members were frantically searching for the five-year-old dog and had also lodged a complaint with the Pondy Bazaar police station.

CCTV footage collected from the area showed the dog being abducted by two people, including a woman, in a cab on Friday night. The footage showed a man, believed to be driver of a call taxi trying to woo the dog — which was standing on the road — with snacks, with help from the woman sitting inside the car. The man later pushed Jackie into car. The owners are at a loss, wondering who could have abducted their pet and hope that the police would zero in on them soon.
