DRI seizes 15 kg of drugs, three arrested in 2 cases
Sleuths from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence, Chennai, seized narcotics and busted a smuggling gang operating in Chennai, thus thwarting attempts to smuggle it through sea and air routes. The sleuths seized 13.6 kg of drugs and Rs. 24.9 lakh cash from the trio who were arrested.

On Saturday night, a DRI team intercepted a man near the toll plaza Vanagaram when he was about to board a bus bound to Ramanathapuram and recovered 10.6 kg of methamphetamine, also called crystal meth or ice in party circles, hidden in Chinese tea packs. He disclosed that the packets were given to him by a resident of North Chennai, instructing him to arrange to smuggle it using country boats for a buyer in Sri Lanka, DRI said in a press release.
Early on Sunday morning, a team of officers raided the supplier’s house in North Chennai and found 1.475 kg ketamine. During questioning, both the persons admitted to having repeatedly smuggled various narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances on previous occasions. From there, they also seized Rs 24.96 lakhs and a Ford Ecosport car used by the smugglers for transporting drugs.
On July 24, a DRI team intercepted a passenger at Chennai airport, as he was boarding a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and seized 1.53 kg hashish in paste form found wrapped in aluminium foil resembling chocolates, halwa and sweets, concealed within a chips packet. When questioned, the passenger, a resident of Chennai, admitted to having agreed to smuggle hashish out of India for a monetary consideration, and was arrested, the DRI release said.
