Goods worth Rs 35 lakh seized at airport
The Customs officers seized gold, laptops and cigarettes worth more than Rs 35 lakh at Chennai airport.

When they were checking passengers who arrived from Dubai, they intercepted Mohamed Asmathullah Khan (30) of Ramanathapuram. During interrogation, he admitted to having concealed gold in his rectum. Gold weighing 276 grams worth Rs 10 lakh was extracted from him. They also seized 10 used laptops, 10 cartons of Gudang Garam cigarettes valued Rs 73,000. In another incident, Sunil Hariram of Maharashtra, who arrived from Singapore, was intercepted on suspicion. The officers seized 20 camera lenses and 20 Apple AirPods worth Rs 6 lakh from his luggage. During further search, 58-gram gold cut bit worth Rs 2 lakh was also seized from him. The officers also seized 458 grams of gold, worth more than 16 lakh, from Mahariba Beevi (50) of Pudukottai, who arrived from Colombo, on Wednesday.
