The police also arrested two more students, Ravi and Rehman, late on Wednesday night.

Pachaiyappa’s College Principal in-charge P Arulmozhichelvan on Wednesday issued a circular suspending S Madhan, studying final-year BA Philosophy, and S Suruthi, studying final-year BA Historical Studies, who allegedly unleashed the violence ganging up with a few others on Tuesday.

Their presence was confirmed with the video which went viral within minutes after the incident. The duo was booked under seven sections including attempt to murder. Joint Commissioner (East) R Sudhakar, who met the Pachaiyappa’s College authorities, later told media that the students who indulge in acts that disturb the public peace will be treated as anti-social elements and suitable action will be taken.

Meanwhile, six special teams have been searching for the remaining students who were seen wielding the machetes in the video. “If needed, we will not hesitate to book then under the Goondas act,” the officer added.

    Another video surfaces

Meanwhile, another video of a student being beaten up and forced to write ‘imposition’ that students using route 53 (MTC bus route) are superior to those who travel on Parry’s Corner route, did the rounds.

While this video was said to be the reason for the outbreak of violence on Tuesday, the police did not confirm it as the student seen in the video is yet to be traced. Also, the police were also not sure when and where the video was taken. The 29-second long video shows a youngster being surrounded by a group that asked him to write that ‘53 route is superior.’ In between, they also hit him on the head.
