Officials on Tuesday confirmed that the sub-inspector identified asGunasekaran has been placed under suspension.
Deepak, a resident of State Bank Colony of West Tambaram, recently went to book a new car in Velachery and took the car out for a test drive. When he tried to negotiate a narrow turn near Irumbuliyur, the car turned upside down. While none was injured in the incident, Deepak and the showroom staff decided to lodge a complaint at the traffic police in order to claim insurance.
When they visited the Chromepet traffic investigation wing police station, the sub-inspector Gunasekaran allegedly demanded Rs 2,750 from him to issue them a CSR receipt.
They argued with him but in vain. Then, they ended up paying him Rs 1,000. The sub-inspector was not satisfied with it and asked them to pay for the tea the station staff had bought that day and Deepak paid another Rs 105.
While the incident reached the media, Gunasekaran asked Deepak to take back Rs 1,000, but fined him Rs 1,000 after booking him for overspeeding and gave him the receipt.
After the incident reached the senior officials, they ordered an inquiry by an Assistant Commissioner and as the charges against Gunasekaran were proved, he was suspended.
Another victim, who did not wish to be named, said that not just sub-inspector Gunasekaran but even the inspector Banumathi allegedly receives bribe from motorists.
