Showers to continue for five more days in Chennai, says Met
Heavy downpour witnessed in various parts of the city on Tuesday is likely to continue over the next five days, as Regional Meteorological Centre stated that fairly widespread rains are expected in the city.

On Tuesday, Tambaram received the second highest amount of rainfall in the State (5 cm) after The Nilgiris that recorded 7 cm. The city on an average received 4 cm of rainfall.
Various areas in the city and Kancheepuram, including Taramani, Kelambakkam, Mahabalipuram, Adyar, T Nagar, Velachery and Meenambakkam, received at least 2 cm of rain as of 5.30 pm on Tuesday. The two weather stations inNungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 7.8 mm and 3.5 mm respectively.
In next 48 hours, the city sky is likely to be overcast coupled with few spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in some areas.
The rainfall has led to a drop in the maximum temperatures at both the weather stations by at least 7 degrees Celsius from the normal.
During the day, weather stations at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam received a maximum temperature of 28.1 degree Celsius and 27.9 degree Celsius respectively. In next 48 hours, the maximum and minimum temperature in the city is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, other districts including Tiruvallur, Theni, Coimbatore and Salem also received rainfall on Tuesday. According to RMC, heavy to very heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated over ghat areas in next 48 hours that will bring rains to The Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Theniand Dindigul.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over north Tamil Nadu, including Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tiruvallur and Kancheepuram districts.
