The deceased, Bhaskaran of Kurinji Street in Madanandapuram near Mangadu, was living alone after his wife Suseela moved with their second son Mahindra Prabhu’s family in Manimangalam a few years ago. Their elder son is abroad, said the police.

The house remained locked for the last few days and his neighbours taught he was out of town. As a foul smell started emanating from the house, they alerted the Mangadu police as well as his son Mahindra Prabhu.

When the police went to his house and broke open the door, they found his decomposed body. There were injuries on his head and the marks on his neck indicated that he could have been strangulated with his lungi. Suseela and Mahindra Prabhu told the police that the jewels he was wearing and his moped were missing. The police said that he is suspected have died at least five days ago and are going through the CCTV footage to find out if there was any suspicious movement of people near his house.

A police team has also rushed to Tiruvannamalai to secure a security guard, who was reportedly friends with Bhaskaran, as he had been missing for the last few days.
