During the monsoon season, with the abundance of moisture, the warm surroundings come back to life with the pouring of rain. It’s said that rainy season is one of the best periods to explore tourist places if you want to escape the crowd and noise. Here are five stunning destinations across India to explore this rainy season.
Chennai
Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand
Spread across 87.5 square kilometres, the Valley of Flowers National Park in Uttarakhand is a trekker’s dream come true. It is only during the monsoon that one gets to experience the full bloom of 400 varieties of flowers. And the breath-taking view makes it worthwhile.
Coorg, Karnataka
Even though Coorg is an all-year-round place to visit its captivating beauty, the best time to visit is during the monsoons. A land decorated with lush green tea plantations, this town often receives monsoon from June till September. Waterfalls such as Irupu falls and Chelavara falls are a treat to watch at Coorg during the monsoon. Madikeri Fort and Harangi dam are also some of the top places to visit. Also, trekking at Chelavara falls and rafting at Barapole river are some of the enthralling activities you can do at Coorg during this time. But most importantly, be careful of the heavy downpour in some places.
Lonavala, Maharashtra
It’s the perfect destination during monsoon for people of all ages. Just 80 km from Mumbai and 65 km from Pune, Lonavala is also great for its eateries as it offers amazing mouthwatering street food which can be spotted at every tourist locations in Lonavala. Bhushi dam and Pawna dam give that scenic views and provide recreational activities such as parasailing, jet skiing, and boating. Photographers and hikers will find it very thrilling as Lonavala has remarkable places such as Tiger’s Leap, Lion’s Point, Rajmachi Fort and Tikona.
Munnar, Kerala
The tranquillity and scenic views make Munnar a perfect getaway destination during monsoon. Here, nature at its very best can be enjoyed at Attukal waterfalls, Lakkom waterfalls and Chinnakanal waterfalls. Apart from these gorgeous waterfalls, Eravikulam National Park, which is home to the Nilgiri Tahrs and the Neelakurinji flowers, which can be seen only once in 12 years, makes Munnar unique from other tourist spots in South India. For trekkers and photographers, activities like boating at Kundala lake, sunset view at Pothamedu view point and the fascinating elephant rides at Carmelgiri Park can make your Munnar visit much more exciting.
Wayanad, Kerala
It is said that Wayanad becomes even more magical after rain. Monsoon in Wayanad brings that extra beauty factor to the place that will amaze you in a different way altogether and compel you to visit it in that very moment. The main attraction of this hill station is the 3-day monsoon festival ‘Splash’. This carnival conducts activities like off-roading, mud football, zip line, tug of war and boating. You can also enjoy treks and camp here.
