The duo, Ranjith and Manikandan, both residents of New Washermanpet, were returning after a drinking session with their friends on Thursday night when the altercation happened. As they were riding two-wheeler, sub-inspector Prabhu attached to the traffic wing stopped them during a vehicle check. According to the police, the two were drunk and failed to produce documents for the vehicle. Instead, they got into a fight with the policeman who asked for the documents, police noted.

Prabhu, who was injured, is undergoing treatment at the government hospital. A complaint was registered with the New Washermanpet police station, and the duo were arrested and remanded to judicial custody.
