CM allots Rs 2,300 cr for Adyar, Cooum restoration
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Thursday announced that Rs 2,371 crore would be allotted for the restoration of Adyar and Cooum rivers.

Chief Minister, in his announcements under section 110 of Tamil Nadu Assembly Rules, said, “Environment restoration works in Adyar and Cooum rivers, under Chennai Rivers Restoration Trust, is continuing. Works like interception of sewage, making alternate routes, setting up sewage treatment plants, sewage pumping station along with the ongoing works of strengthening the sewage infrastructure of the city will be taken up using the funds”.
Similar to waterbodies in Chennai, the waterbodies in other major cities such as Coimbatore, Tiruchy, Tiruppur and Erode will also be restored by preventing mixing of sewage with water bodies and setting up sewage treatment plants. “Government will carry out inspection and possibilities of restoration of water bodies and a detailed project report will be prepared”, said Palaniswami.
Vegetable gardens at anganwadis
Chief Minister further announced setting up of vegetable markets in Anganwadi centres to meet their own demands. “Vegetable gardens will be set up in 9,915 anganwadi centres at a cost of Rs 4.96 crore. The project will be executed with the help of Horticulture Department with Rs 5,000 each for individual gardens”, Palaniswami said.
Integrated bus stand in Kovai
Palaniswami, in his announcement, said that Coimbatore will get an integrated bus stand at a cost of about Rs 178 crore. “To avoid traffic congestion in the Coimbatore, an integrated bus stand will be constructed at Vellalur at an area of 61.62 acres at a cost of Rs 178.26 crore. The bus stand will come into operation this year and the financial assistance for the project will be from state subsidy as well as infrastructure funding agencies”, Palaniswami added.
