Overwhelming response from ‘cityzens’ to pet adoption drive at mall

Many who have not yet stepped inside an animal shelter were amazed to see such puppies and kittens and were attracted enough to adopt them. The BCI has already organised seven such adoption drives in various malls like Phoenix Market City and Express Avenue.

Though the registrations for adoptions were done online, many spot registrations also transpiredat the mall.

Vijaya M who came to shop was surprised to see cute puppies up for adoption and wanted to get one for herself. “I didn’t know about this event earlier and hence could not register. Now, after seeing these puppies, I badly want to take one home,” she said while standing in the queue to register.

Many people had flocked to the mall on seeing the advertisements of the adoption drive in social media pages of the shopping mall.

“I am waiting for spot registration. But I don’t know whether I would be lucky enough to adopt a pet. If not, I’m planning to go to the shelter directly and adopt one,” said Swetha V, who was at the mall after seeing the advertisement.

Dawn Williams, General Manager, BCI, said the attention gained in such malls was higher than in shelters. “People who come for a casual shopping get interested and want to have one for them. Children who accompany their parents also evince great interest in caring for these puppies. This is our fifth edition at this mall based on the success of our previous editions.”

He added that about 100 puppies were adopted in the first adoption drive that was held here. Even though spot registrations were on, priority was given to those who registered online, he said.

In an adoption drive hosted on Saturday, 69 puppies and 21 kittens were adopted. BCI also provided the adopted animals free vaccination and medication.
