Corpn prepares database to track all its properties for new projects
After struggling to identify vacant lands for new projects, the Greater Chennai Corporation has decided to create a database of its properties.
Chennai
A senior Corporation official said that Chennai Collector has been requested to provide a list of properties in the city. “As of now, we do not have details of the exact number of properties owned by the Corporation. After the database is created, it will be easy to keep track of the properties,” the official said.
The civic body plans to use the database to find whether its properties are being encroached upon or not, apart from ascertaining their current use. A meeting was held at the Ripon Building recently to speed up the process to create the database.
Recently, officials were struggling to identify suitable vacant land parcels to build multi-level car parking facilities at many parts of the city. This happened owing to the lack of a proper database.
Meanwhile, another official expressed that the move would help reclaim encroached properties of the Corporation. “We have intensified eviction drives to reclaim civic body’s properties. With the revenue department data, we can know the exact extent and location of the properties with their survey numbers,” he said.
