Three school students injured after van tips over
Three school students suffered injuries after a private van carrying them overturned near Cheyyur on Thursday morning. Police said the three injured students were sent home after treatment at Pavunchur government hospital.

The private van was carrying the 20 students of St Marks Matriculation School at Kuvathur near ECR. When it proceeding on Kuvathur main road, the vehicle tipped over. Immediately after the accident, the van driver escaped from the spot without bothering about the students. The local public then came to the rescue of the students. Meanwhile, the news spread among the villagers and more than 100 of them gathered at the spot. The police from Cheyyur, Anaicut, Kuvathur arrived there and took all the students to a hospital. Police said except for the three who suffered minor injuries, all the students were fine.
But the villagers gathered at the Kuvathur main road and staged a protest. They demanded that the schools should use their own vehicle to transport students instead of entering into contracts with private vans. The Revenue officials and police who arrived at the spot pacified them on the promise of taking action.
Following the incident, the traffic at Kuvathur main road was affected for more than two hours.
