Parcel scam: Over 12 staff transferred
Authorities of Southern Railway (SR) have effected a massive organisational shake up at the parcel offices in Chennai Central where scams were unearthed twice in a year.

The divisional personnel department has transferred more than a dozen employees, including four suspended a week ago for slapping overweight penalty for a missing consignment which was impounded by railway vigilance at the inward parcel office on May 28.
DT Next had reported on June 8 about the mysterious disappearance of the ‘impounded’ consignment weighing six tonnes from the inward parcel office during vigilance check on June 6. Shockingly, employees at the parcel office had attempted to wrap up the case by clearing it as a case of ‘overweight’ on collection of Rs 1.2 lakh penalty, reportage of which forced authorities to place them under suspension.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Assistant Personnel Officer G Balasubramanian had issued three separate orders to transfer more than a dozen employees, including suspended Commercial supervisors David Vijayakumar, Chitra Prabhu and chief commercial clerk Pravitha Devi and senior commercial clerk Lokesh. “The above transfer order should be carried out immediately and the supervisory officers will be held responsible for any lapse,” read the order (copy of which is available with DT Next). The order also instructs the supervisory officers to strictly ensure that transfers are carried out under the advice to this office. Sources privy to the development revealed that the suspension has been revoked and charge sheet would be served to the four to commence a formal inquiry shortly.
