Drunk driver goes berserk, abuses cop when caught

A video of the man, later identified as P Naveen of Tiruvanmiyur, verbally abusing police personnel and attacking them went viral.

Police said Naveen, who is into export of fruits, decided to drive all the way to his hometown in Madurai to meet his father Pugazhendhi. As he was driving under the influence of alcohol, he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the parked autorickshaw on ECR near Neelankarai. The car came to a halt after hitting into a wall a few metres away.

On information, Neelankarai police reached the spot and took him out of the car. However, a video which is doing the rounds shows him verbally abusing a few policemen on the spot and attempting to attack them. While Adyar traffic police booked him for drunk and rash driving, Neelankarai police arrested him for attacking police personnel on duty. He was remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
