Kids wade through stagnant water after brief spell of rain
After enjoying a cooler night following a brief spell of rain, the people were at the receiving end due to rainwater stagnation on the streets of Pallavaram Cantonment area on Monday morning.
Chennai
Many suburban areas in Chennai, including Pallavaram, received a good spell of rain on Sunday evening. Though they enjoyed the rain, the residents here rued that it led to flooding of the roads here. The residents alleged that the situation was particularly bad at Rajendra Prasad road which is used by nearly 6,000 students to reach their schools – there are three schools nearby, including a government-aided school for girls. The students and parents had to wade through stagnant water, and many complained that their uniform and shoes was covered with dirt.
The residents demanded the Cantonment Board to construct storm water drains and also save the water. The St Thomas Mount Pallavaram Cantonment Vice President MSD Raja said, “We removed the water using pumps and filled three water tankers. It was drained into a nearby lake. Soon we will take steps to construct drains and save the water.”
