Vasantham Nagar is a thickly populated residential area with more than 500 houses and it lies on Poonamalle-Avadi High Road. Avadi, which was declared a Municipal Corporation recently, has been undergoing many development measures from then. The residents of the locality want Corporation officials to take prompt action and relay the roads in their area, too.

A Aadithan, treasurer of Vasantham Nagar Residents’ Welfare Association, said that their area has been witnessing a lot of changes like setting up of children’s parks and clean drinking water. He stressed that if the roads are fixed, their area would get beautified.

“The roads are causing a difficult time for children while playing because they tend to fall and get hurt. Commuting through the streets is also a problem. We have given several complaints regarding this to the Avadi Corporation, but no action has been taken,” he said.

It an adventure for two-wheeler riders, especially after nightfall, as they have to be cautious while riding on the stretch. Residents added that it’s even more pathetic as the roads would turn sloppy with mud and water during rainy days.

M Vigneshwara (26), a resident of the area for the past 6 years, said, “This road hasn’t been fixed since I relocated here. I work night shifts and it is a difficult journey. In the fear of skidding, I have pushed my bike till home a few days,” he said. He also added that during rainy days, with puddles of water on the road, the bumps would be hardly seen — making two-wheelers vulnerable.

G Mohanan (62), a resident, said that water stagnation can be completely solved if the roads are relaid. “We have tried to pool in money and fix it by ourselves but that didn’t work out,” he said.

When Dt next contacted an official from Avadi Municipal Corporation, he said, “We have sent a proposal to lay new roads in many places. Once it’s accepted, we will startthe work”.
