History-sheeter hacked to death in Ennore, 1 held

Retaliating against a history-sheeter who was trying to extort money from them, a five-member gang hacked him to death outside his house at Ennore in broad daylight on Saturday. This was their second attempt after a failed one two months ago.

The deceased was identified as K Pandian alias Karuppu Pandian, a 33-year-old resident of 53rd block in Tsunami Quarters, Ennore, who has several cases, including murder and robbery, pending against him. Police have secured one of the suspects involved in the attack.

Police said that Pandian was resting outside his house after lunch around 1.45 pm when a five-member gang surrounded and hacked him several times with machetes and other weapons. With severe head injuries, Pandian died on the spot, while the gang fled the spot.

Shocked neighbours alerted Ennore police, who retrieved his body and sent it to Stanley Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination.

A case was registered, and a hunt was launched to nab the suspects. A Gangadharan (24) of Ernavur was secured by police and preliminary inquiry revealed that Pandian often threatened the suspects and demanded money, which infuriated them.

The gang had previously attempted to murder Panidan once in April, but he managed to escape with minor injuries. They hatched a plan again and murdered him in their second attempt. A hunt has been launched for the other four suspects.
