Soon, advanced cancer treatment facilities in government hospitals: TN Health Minister

“Cancer treatment centres will be set up soon in 10 government hospitals in Tamil Nadu including Chennai at the cost of Rs 210 crore,” said Health Minister C Vijayabaskar.

Health Minister C Vijayabaskar opened 'The pain relief and support centre' in Chennai Royapettah government hospital, which is equipped with 8-bed system at the cost of Rs 15 lakh. 

“Advanced Cancer Treatment Centres will be set up in 10 of the Tamil Nadu government hospitals including Chennai Rajiv Gandhi government hospital, Kanchipuram Arignar Anna cancer hospital and Madurai Rajaji government hospital. A sum of Rs 210 crore has been allocated for this purpose and the work is underway,” said Minister C Vijayabaskar.

He also added, “The treatment would be performed using a modern tool Linear Accelerator Model, which is used to penetrate radiation only in the cancer affected area so that it does not affect other organs of the body.”

Health Secretary Dr. Beela Rajesh, director of the National Wellbeing Group Dr. Therese Ahmed and the Director of Medical Education Edwin Joe were also in the opening ceremony.
