Gang attacks 2 men for tipping off police about ganja trade
An eight-member gang on Sunday attacked two men and burnt a car after they lodged a complaint against the gang members who were supplying ganja in Kilakarai near Maraimalai Nagar.

The victims were identified as Babu (35), a call taxi driver, and his friend Suman. Both of them were residents of a Housing Board quarters in Kilakarai in Maramalai Nagar.
According to the police, a group of men used to consume drugs on a vacant space near the victims’ house. They also supplied ganja to the youngsters in the locality. Babu and his friends, Suman and Raman, asked them not use the place for anti-social activities. As the gang continued using the spot, the trio lodged a complaint against them at the Maraimalai Nagar police station.
Following this, the police increased the patrol in the locality due which the gang avoided using the space. On Sunday evening, they were again seen consuming liquor at the spot. When Babu, Suman and Raman asked them to leave the place, it led to quarrel between them.
Around 8.30 pm, the gang entered Babu’s house, attacked him and damaged household articles. They also attacked Suman, who came to Babu’srescue. Then, they set fire to an SUV that was parked near their house and fled the spot.
The Maraimalai Nagar police, along with fire personnel, went to the spot and doused the fire. The police have registered a case and are searching for the men who were involved in the incident. Babu and Suman have been admitted to a private hospital in Potheri for treatment, said the police.
It may be noted that a few men attacked a fast food shop and hurled petrol bombs in the same locality. The police suspect same gang was involved in the previousincident also.
