9 mm pistol found ‘abandoned’ under seat of two-wheeler

Police said Sargunam, a resident of Kolathur, went to buy fish from a market near the railway station in Villivakkam. He went on his red colour Honda Activa and parked it on the side of the road near the market. After buying the fish, he returned to the parking area. When he opened the seat of the two-wheeler, he saw a pistol inside.

Shocked by this, he took a closer look at the vehicle and realised that it was not his vehicle but another two-wheeler of the same make and colour. He immediately alertedthe police.

When the Rajamangalam police started the probe, they found that the vehicle in which the gun was found belonged to the wife of police inspector. Police said they suspect that she had taken Sargunam’s two-wheeler by mistake and went home without knowing that she was driving another person’s vehicle.

Police said it appears that her husband, the policeman, had kept the gun under the seat during one of his trips and forgot to take it back, and added that the pistol had no rounds loaded in it.

Rajamangalam police later summoned the inspector and his wife and asked them to return Sargunam’s two-wheeler to him. The vehicle in which the gun was found along with the weapon as handed over to the inspector. It is not clear the gun was a service revolver or not.
