Customs nabs 2 women for smuggling
Two women from Tamil Nadu were nabbed by the Customs at the airport here on Thursday for trying to smuggle gold from Colombo.

Following suspicion, AIU officers stopped Sulochana Reagan (55) from Madurai, who had arrived from Colombo on Thursday. When she was searched, the officers found that two bundles of gold in rubbery form were concealed in her innerwear. According to a statement, the gold of 24k purity that weighed 277 grams and was valued at Rs. 9.37 lakh was seized.Â
In another incident that night, Thahira Banu (35) from Nagapattinam, who had reached the airport here along with her daughter from Singapore via Colombo, was intercepted by the Customs. When they frisked her, two crude gold chains of 24k purity weighing 304 grams were found concealed in her innerwear. The valuables worth an estimated Rs. 10.3 lakh were subsequently seized, the statement read.Â
