The water manager has hired 149 smaller tanker lorries that include seventy 2,000-litre lorries and sevnty-nine 3,000-litre lorries. “We have a plan to increase the number to 300. Remaining 151 lorries will be hired and readied within 10 days,” a Metrowater official said.

The official added that on an average, each small tanker makes 12 trips per day including trips operated for street supply. The new 2,000-litre and 3,000-litre lorries augment the Metrowater’s fleet of around 900 tanker lorries with capacities of 6,000 and 9,000 litre.

Metrowater charges Rs 350 for 2,000 litre of water and Rs 400 for 3,000 litre.

“For the time being, the residents can book smaller lorries at respective area offices as we are yet to make provisions for online booking. However, residents could book smaller tankers in a few as we are making modifications in the online booking system,” the official added.

According to date, Metrowater is operating nearly 9,400 trips per day. Of the total trips operated, 6,500 trips are street supplies, which are provided at free of cost. Remaining trips are supplied to residents, who book for mobile water supply.

“Residents with smaller sumps would book 2,000 or 3,000-litre tankers instead of booking 6,000-litre tankers. Due to this waiting time has already come down,” the official said.
