Man tries to rob jeweller with chilli powder, held

The accused, Baskaran, is a resident of Madurai. According to the police, the jeweller, 45-year-old R Selvam had come from Theni to Chennai to buy gemstones. “He rented a room in a lodge in T Nagar along with his friends and had returned to the room after purchasing the jewels,” said an officer

“The friends were chatting when suddenly, Baskaran entered the room and on the pretext of striking a conversation, threw chilli powder on them and tried to flee with the gemstones. Others, however, managed to overpower him on time and handed him over to the Mambalam police.

A case has been registered against Baskaran and the police is looking into the case.
