Weathermen said the temperature is likely to remain around 41 degree Celsius on Saturday, too, though they are also predicting light rains in the city and neighbouring areas. This came a day after parts of southern areas received sporadic spell of rains.

Meanwhile, as the southwest monsoon has further advanced into some parts of Central Arabian sea, heavy rain occurred in several parts of southern districts of Tamil Nadu. At 7 cm, Dindigul district recorded maximum rainfall during the last 24 hours, followed by Villupuram, which registered 5 cm in the same period.

The weather report further said thunderstorm accompanied with gusty winds and lightning is likely to occur at isolated places over districts in the west and south such as Salem, Karur, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Tiruchy, Villupuram and Cuddalore during the next 24 hours.
