He was a homosexual who castrated those who allegedly rejected his sexual overtures, the police said.
The accused, identified as Muniasamy (36), is a native of Manamadurai. He came to the city two months ago and was working at a fish shop in Villivakkam. The police said that he was married and has two children. “As he was attracted to men, he roamed around the roads looking for men in the night. He slashed those who refused to cooperate with him,” the police said.
On May 26, Aslam Basha was found lying unconscious under Retteri flyover, with his male organ chopped off. According to the police, he was in an inebriated condition when the incident took place. He was rushed to a nearby government hospital. However, he died without responding to treatment.
Meanwhile, a similar incident was reported in the same locality two days later. During the investigation, the victim revealed that a man cut off his genitals when he was lying unconscious under the influence of alcohol.
Drawing a relation between the two cases, the police collected CCTV footage and released photos of the suspect. While the police were trying to trace Muniasamy, Ashok Kumar, a fish vendor, informed them that the suspect was his employee, after seeing the CCTV footage on television channels.
During the investigation, it was found that Muniasamy would approach drunk men lying unconscious under the Retteri flyover when got dark.
“According to his statement, he used a razor blade to slash Aslam Basha and a broken beer bottle for the second victim, Narayana Perumal. He claimed that he has been attracted to men since he was in Class 10 and also that he has had sexual relationships with many consensual men,” the inspector said.
