‘Bulk waste generators must segregate’
Bulk waste generators, including hotels, gated communities and colleges, should segregate the biodegradable wastes on their own, said retired HC judge P Jothimani, the chairman of the National Green Tribunal’s monitoring committee, on Monday.

In a seminar cum consultation meeting held here, Jothimani said that as per the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, all bulk waste generators should segregate the biodegradable waste.
“If they do not have adequate space, they could hand over the waste generated by them to the corporation compost yard,” he said. The Corporation generates 5,250 tonnes of garbage a day, of which 374 tonnes of biodegradable waste is given to composting yards and power generation units. The corporation collects 425 tonnes from bulk generators.
