A few weeks ago, a man was murdered by unknown men, who had also mutilated his sex organ. Police said Andrin Ramesh, a sub-inspector of police from Rajamangalam police station, was investigating the case along with another policeman. They gathered a tip-off from an informer that the main accused in the murder was a person named Shankar.
Following a tip-off that Shankar was at a Tasmac bar in Kolathur, the two went there. At around 9 pm, while they were making inquiries with people present in the bar, a drunk man was causing nuisance.
“The man was creating a ruckus in the bar by attacking and abusing other drinkers. Andrin confronted him and asked him to leave the premises,” said police. But the man, Sathish Kumar (22) of Srinivasa Street at Kolathur, attacked the sub-inspector with an empty beer bottle. While the other police personnel nabbed Sathish Kumar, the injured SI was admitted to the Stanley Medical College Hospital.
The Rajamangalam police arrested Sathish Kumar and remanded him in judicial custody. Police said that the two could not trace the murder suspect in the melee at the bar.
