3 die in road accidents in southern suburbs

The deceased were identified as Murugan (42), a resident of Anagaputhur and conservancy worker at Pallavaram municipality, Jayalakshmi (34) from Medavakkam and Vivek (25) from Maduranthagam.

The police said that Murugan, his wife Kalaimani (32) and her brother Aravindhan (20) were clearing the garbage on GST Road near Chrompet when a lorry hit them on Tuesday.

While Murugan died on the spot in the impact, the injured were taken to Chromepet Government Hospital. They were later shifted to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital in Chennai. The Chromepet traffic investigation police said Kalaivani is critical and Aravindhan is out of danger.

They have registered a case and are searching for the lorry driver, Shankar, who fled the spotafter the accident.

In the second incident, Jayalakshmi from Thillaigangadar Street was hit by another lorry when she tried to cross Tambaram-Velachery Road near Medavakkam on Monday afternoon. She was on the way to her son’s school to pay his fees. Jayalakshmi was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital but she died without responding to treatments on Tuesday early morning. The St Thomas Mount Traffic investigation police have registered a case and arrested the lorry driver, Thirumalai (27), from Medavakkam.

In the last incident, Vivek from Valaiyaputhur village was traveling on a two-wheeler from Vedanthagal towards Maduranthagam when he collided head-on with a government bus and died on the spot. He was a private firm employee.

The Maduranthagam police, who visited the spot, retrieved the body and sent it for post-mortem examination. They have registered a case.
