Dejected over fiancé’s death, 22-yr-old woman hangs herself

The police said that Divya was a resident of Ponni Amman Nagar in Kovilambakkam near Medavakkam and was a final year BSc student in a private college. She was apparently in a relationship with 28-year-old AC mechanic V Mani from the same locality. Both the families knew about their relationship and had agreed to their marriage. Last week, Mani came home late and drunk. His father scolded him and did not allow him to enter the house, forcing him to sleep in the corridor. 

Even on the following day, his parents had reportedly scolded him. Upset over it, Mani set himself on fire. He was rushed to the Chromepet Government Hospital and was later shifted to Kilpauk Medical College. But he had suffered 82 per cent burns, and died on Saturday. Dejected over this, Divya locked herslef in her room and hanged herself. Her family members managed to break open the door but by then she had died. The Madipakkam police have registered a case and sent the body for autopsy to Chromepet Government Hospital.
