Minister inaugurates new facilities at ICH
Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar inaugurated various new facilities, including an integrated laboratory, yoga therapy centre and art therapy centre, at the Institute of Child Health (ICH) on Friday.

Addressing the press after the inauguration, the Minister said that the lab will help establish zero-delay through a pneumatic tubular system for specimen transportation and result dispatch. The facility will enable automatic transportation of samples and its collection at the bio-chemistry lab, the bar-coded samples will be tested immediately and will be declared on the computers in the respective wards.
Meanwhile, in an attempt to create a safe and stimulating environment for the pediatrics who are under treatment at the hospital, creative art therapy centre and hospital clowning have been initiated by volunteers and medicos at ICH. They will include dance, music and other creative skills as per the choice of the children to help them come out of anxiety and depression.
“Art therapy is first of its kind initiative in government hospitals and the staff will train other volunteers to learn and offer the same at other government hospitals,” said director of ICH, Dr Arasar Seeralar.
A new ultra sonogram room was also inaugurated. The block also contains an air-conditioned waiting area for the attendees, too.
The hospital will also have a Crèche for the employees of the Institute of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (IOG), ICH and government eye hospital. It will function round-the-clock and offer caretaking services.
