Kancheepuram gets surprise sleet rain
Even as most parts of the State experienced scorching sun for yet another day, the people of Kancheepuram had a rather pleasant day after receiving unexpected shower on Tuesday. Much to their surprise, it was sleet rain – showers with small pieces of ice – that many of them experienced for the first time.

The high temperature had forced people, including children, to stay indoors till evening. But all that changed on Tuesday, even if for a few hours.
In the evening, the climate changed suddenly, with dark clouds filling the sky. A short while later, it began raining, accompanied by strong winds. It took a while for the people to realise that it was not a normal shower. This was witnessed in places including Kancheepuram, Baluchetty Chatram, Orikkai, Sevilimedu, Walajabad and Sunguvachatram.
This brought many people out of their houses, who began collecting the ice pieces that fell on the ground. It continued for nearly 30 minutes. The elder folks recollected that they had a similar experience about 15 years ago.
