Trying to enter house, youth falls to death from 12th floor

The deceased, Kattil Salman, was native of Malappuram district in Kerala, who was pursuing final-year of mechanical engineering at Arupadai Veedu Institute of Technology (AVIT) at Paiyanur. The incident happened around 1.30 am when Salman briefly stepped out of the house.

According to police, Salman was staying in the multi-storied apartment at Thaiyur along with three other friends, all from Malappuram. One of them had gone to his native, while the other three – Salman, Mohammed Sanu (23) andRizan (21) – went to attend the morning prayers at a nearby mosque. After that, they went to a biriyani shop in Egattur before beginning the fast and returned to the room.

While the other two fell asleep, Salman stepped out around 1 pm in casuals and returned to the room a little while later. “After finding that the door was auto-locked, he decided to enter the house through the terrace as they usually do. But he slipped and fell from the 12th floor to thelawn,” said Kelambakkam police.

A neighbour who was parking his two-wheeler at that time saw Salman falling and immediately alerted few other residents. Together they woke up Mohammed Sanu and Rizan, and Kelambakkam police were also informed.

Police retrieved his body and sent it to Chengalpattu government hospital for post-mortem examination. Salman’s parents, said to be working in Dubai, were informed about their son’s death through their kin. “They are expected to arrive on Monday, after which the autopsy willbe carried out,”said police.

This is the second such incident reported near Kelambakkam in the last 40 days. In the previous incident, 21-year-old Mohamed Afridi, also an engineering student from Kerala, fell to his death from the 14th floor as the main door of his house was auto-locked.
