Realtor sends video suicide note, ends life over losses
A 48-year-old realtor committed suicide after sending a video clip to his friends saying that he was forced to take the extreme step due to heavy losses in his business, in Maduravoyal.
Chennai
The deceased, Chinnaraja (48) of Venkateshwara Nagar, was living with his wife Rita (46). His son was killed in a road accident three years ago and his daughter got married last year.
On Monday night, he recorded a two-minute video in which he claimed that real estate sector was affected in the past few years due to government restriction in regularisation of unapproved plots. He has also claimed that he was not able to handle pressure and was sleepless due to mounting debts.
He forwarded it to his close friends in the real estate business. Those who saw the video on WhatsApp tried to reach him over phone but it was switched off. They immediately informed the police control room and rushed to his house to inform his wife. However, he was found hanging from ceiling when they reached his house. His body was sent for post-mortem examination to Kilpauk MedicalÂ
College Hospital.
When contacted, other real estate businessmen seconded Chinnaraja’s thoughts that legal and hidden rates for regularisation of plots have hit the real estate sector.
