Corpn teachers to go door-to-door to increase admission
The Greater Chennai Corporation has directed its schoolteachers to conduct door-to-door canvassing to increase admission in the schools maintained by the civic body.

An official said that the management has asked teachers to cover all the streets located within 1.5 km radius from the respective schools.
“We have also printed pamphlets explaining the facilities and benefits provided in the schools. Teachers would find children not attending school and dropped out students. Such students will be asked to join Corporation schools,” the official added.
The civic body had printed more than 40,000 pamphlets and sent to respective headmasters to be handed over to the parents.
Presently, the 281 schools maintained by the civic body have a capacity of nearly 1.50 lakh students. “But, only 85,000 students are studying in our schools. We have a target of increasing the strength to 1.30 lakh in a few years.”
In 2018-19, Chennai Corporation schools had crossed 90 per cent pass for the first time by registering a pass percentage of 90.41 per cent in Class 12 public exam and in Class 10 public exam, 92.44 per cent of students secured pass marks. As much as 93.52 per cent students secured pass marks in Class 11 public exam.
Another civic official said that they would focus on promoting Corporation schools that have been functioning for more than 100 years. “There are five such schools in the city,” he added.
