Main accused in bizman kidnap arrested in Nellai
Four days after a businessman from Korattur, was held hostage by a five-member gang in Thoraipakkam and released after receiving Rs 1 crore from his kin, the city police arrested the main accused in the case from Tirunelveli. Ironically, the businessman had hired the gang to protect him from two men.

The victim, Mohammed Tharique, a relator allegedly received Rs 1.5 crore from two men –Ramakrishnan and Durairaj – on the promise of registering a 110-acre poromboke land near Chembarambakkam in their name. As he delayed to fulfil the promise, the duo allegedly threatened him. Tharique then hired five men, headed by Elangovan from Tirunelveli, to protect him from the duo.
The gang invited him to visit them at Thoraipakkam. When Tharique went there with his friend Muniraj, the gang allegedly attacked both and detained them. They allegedly demanded Rs 1 crore from Tharique’s wife over phone and let them off after they received the money. The gang also snatched the property documents from him at gunpoint. Based on Tharique’s complaint, Thoraipakkam police registered a kidnap case and nabbed Elangovan from Tirunelveli. Police seized Rs 15 lakh from the accused and he is being brought to Chennai.
