The accused was identified as Sathish from Kasthuribai Nagar in West Tambaram. The victim, Thangarajan (32) from Ganapathipuram in East Tambaram, owns a mobile store on Tambaram-Mudichur Road. According to the police, Thangarajan used to park his car at his friend’s Sathish’s house due to lack of parking space at his house.
When Thangarajan went to Sathish’s house to take his car on Sunday, he found the vehicle missing in the parking lot. When he asked the family members of Sathish, they told him that Sathish was using the car. As Sathish did not have a spare key for the vehicle, Thangarajan called him to know how he managed to take the vehicle. However, Sathish did not respond property. He instead told Thangarajan that he had to travel to his native town for some urgent work and would return the vehicle by Monday.
However, Sathish’s mobile number was switched off from Monday after which Thangarajan filed a complaint at the Tambaram police station. With the help of GPS device fixed in the vehicle, the police found that the vehicle is near Chennai and intercepted it. The man, who was driving the vehicle, informed the police that Sathish had leased the vehicle to him after receiving money. “Thangarajan used to allow Sathish to drive the car occasionally. During one such occasion, Sathish made a duplicate key for the vehicle,” the police noted. Later on Tuesday evening, the police arrested Sathish and remanded him in judicial custody. Further investigation is on.
