DGP Ashutosh Shukla last questioned by CBI on April 8

According to the officer, he was last questioned on April 8 at the prison quarters when he was DGP (Prisons) and the inquiry lasted about 15 minutes.

The CBI included him in the probe after an accused told Income Tax sleuths that Rs 60 lakh was paid to the city police Commissioner on April 21, May 20 and June 20, 2016. Shukla was the Commissioner for 25 days in May, during the Assembly elections.

A CBI source said that Shukla was not summoned but an inquiry was held at his quarters in Central Prison on April 8. The officer denied the allegation and said he was monitoring the elections. The scam pertains to the alleged involvement of top politicians and police officials to facilitate the sale of banned gutkha products in the city, after taking bribes amounting to Rs 39.91 crore.
