Why should we humans have all the ice cream to ourselves and leave our pets from enjoying the occasional sweet treats? With most of the human food being filled with ingredients that aren’t always healthy for pets, we show you easy-to-make goodies that keep your dogs and cats cool and happy, despite the hot weather.

While these recipes are healthy for your pets, remember not to let them overeat the treats, but consume only in moderation, paired with exercise, particularly for dogs. Frozen treats, along with ice water, are considered safe for pets, as long as they are consumed in limited amounts.

Frozen yogurt bites: Yogurt is not only good for humans to cool down, but also for dogs. Summer can be bearable for your pooch with treats made of refreshing and creamy yogurt. Simply blend a cup of strawberries or blueberries, with a cup of yogurt and set them in an ice tray for the easiest sweet treats. Make these apple-topped peanut butter bites if your dog loves peanut butter – which requires a cup of yogurt whipped with two spoons of peanut butter. Spoon the mixture into an ice tray and top them with cut apple.

    Breath freshening mint freezies:
For a natural breath freshener treat for your dog, blend yogurt along with a small handful of coriander and mint leaves and pop the mixture into freezer after filling in an ice cube tray. Mint helps in being antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral.

Chicken stock treats: These are great treats if you’re watching your dog’s weight, as they’re low in fat and sugar. Simply freeze homemade chicken stock in freezer moulds and hand one or two to your dog after a walk, they’re sure to feel refreshed.

Frozen tuna snacks: Simply place tuna on a parchment paper and place in a freezer to give your cat its favourite snack with an icy twist. Cats are also known to love ice. So keep their paws hydrated by placing their food in the trays so they are also entertained during meal time.
