According to the police, Shasi worked as a security guard at businessman Bharath Kumar’s house in Kilpauk in the city. Ten days ago, Bharath Kumar handed over his car and house keys to Shasi as he was going abroad on a vacation.

In the wee hours of April 5, a team of police who were conducting a routine vehicle check near the Gandhi Irwin bridge here intercepted Shasi, who was reportedly driving the vehicle in an inebriated condition. The police seized the car and booked Shasi for drunk driving. He was then asked to come the following day to collect the vehicle. Meanwhile, the car owner, Bharath Kumar, filed a complaint at the Kilpauk police station upon learning from his brother that the vehicle and Shasi were missing. As the vehicle registration number was passed on to all police stations, the Egmore police acted on it and informed that the car was seized. On Thursday, the car was handed back to the owner, but the whereabouts of Sashi remained unknown, the police said.
