Three arrested for transporting cattle in container lorry, 39 animals rescued
The police on Wednesday rescued 39 cattle from a container lorry near Acharapakkam while they were being taken to Kerala on the wee hours of Wednesday.

The police arrested Pandian (50), Ramasamy (47) and driver Paul (35), all from Tirunelveli and rescued 18 buffalos, 19 bulls and two cows.
The Acharapakkam police were on vehicle check on GST Road near the Kadamalaiputhur village on Wednesday morning when they tried to stop the container. When the driver didn’t stop the vehicle, policemen gave him a chase. The police caught the three accused when they tried to escape after abandoning the container.
When they opened the rear compartment of the vehicle, the police found cattle stuffed inside with mouths tied up. During the investigation, it was found that Pandian, Ramasamy and Paul were taking the cattle to Kerala from Andhra Pradesh. They told the police that they were only responsible for the transportation and that two men from Tirunelveli had asked them to do the job.
The Acharapakkam police arrested the three and further inquiry is on. The rescued animals were sent to a cattle shelter in Tiruvallur. The police have registered a case and are searching for the people are behind the trade.
