Student knifed in front of father

The victim, M Dineshkumar of Peravallur, a second-year BCom student in a private college in Pallavaram, was returning home from Nungambakkam along with his father Murugesan on Sunday.

The attack happened when they stopped the bike to buy ice apples on Constable Road in Ayanavaram. As they were waiting to be served, a man who followed them suddenly slashed the back of Dineshkumar’s neck with a knife and attempted to flee. Dineshkumar tried to save himself with his right hand and sustained injuries on his fingers. Seeing this, S Johnson, manager of a private bank who was passing by, tried to secure the attacker, but the latter slashed his hand as well and fled with another person who was waiting by on a two-wheeler.

On information, ICF police have registered a case and are combing the CCTV footage collected from the locality to identify the suspects. Dineshkumar’s father Murugesan is into textile business and his mother is a homemaker.

Police are investigating whether Dineshkumarwas attacked in business rivalry or if he has enemies in the college.
