According to the police, the Kancheepuram SP office received a tip-off, that an unlicensed party was being held at Odour resort at ECR. When the Mahabalipuram police along with extra forces rushed to the spot, they found that a party was being held where alcohol and drugs were being consumed.
Bottes of hard liquor, beer, 300 gm of ganja, 3 LSD stamps, and packets of white powder were seized and all the 170 people, including women, were detained. Twelve people, including the three men who were running the resort on lease, were arrested.
Police said the party was organised by V Prabhu, 34, of Ayanavaram who posted details on a website. The participants were in the 18 – 25 age group. Around 25 of them, including eight women, work in IT firms, while 31 others are students of a nearby engineering college. The party-goers were questioned at a community hall nearby, after which the police informed their parents, and let them go with a warning.
Modus operandi: The ‘hosts’ George, Irfan, and Saravana Kumar had taken the resort on lease and conducted weekend parties that started on Friday and went on till Sunday night. They limited the number of guests and sold tickets online. They relied on word-of-mouth publicity. On Monday evening, the district collector P Ponnaiah ordered the resort to be sealed and the police is trying to trace Thangaraj, the owner of the resort.
