Repeat offender infamous for extortion, kidnap held with 4 aides

The gang robbed two persons, Govindaraj of Tondiarpet and a soup seller in Otteri, at knifepoint on Monday following which a special team was formed to nab them. Based on a tip-off, Assistant Commissioner J Vijay Anand and Inspector Ravi rounded up the gang at Kannagipuram ground in Pulianthope. Suresh’s associates were identified as V Chandrakanth (28), S Arun (22), S Mari (40) and A Raja (21) of Pulianthope. 

A native of Chennai, Suresh has been at loggerheads with another gang led by Bomb Saravanan from the same locality. He has more than 40 cases pending against him, mostly extortion and kidnap cases. At Basin Bridge police station, he is an A plus rowdy with seven murders and has been detained under the Goondas Act 10 times so far, said inspector Ravi.

He also allegedly murdered one Kathiravan at KK Nagar and another person identified as Radhakrishnan at Narasimha Nagar in Pulianthope. 

Two knives were seized from the gang. As the police team rounded them up, Suresh and one of his associates had tried to flee by scaling a wall and suffered injuries. All five were remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday.
