Five arrested for stealing red sanders pillars from house
Five men were arrested for stealing two pillars made of red sanders wood from the verandha of a 150-year-old house in Chengalpattu on Sunday.

The police arrested the suspects with the help of CCTV camera footage based on a complaint from Sivaramakrishnan (37), who lives at his ancestral house located on Chinna Maniyakarar Street in Chengalpattu.
According to the police, he had decided to sell two of the six red sander pillars that holds the verandah of the house. After Sivaramakrishnan told some people about his plan, a few men visited the house to buy the pillars.Â
Meanwhile, Sivaramakrishnan went to his relative’s house with his family and returned home on Sunday. He saw that the two red sanders pillars were missing. Based on his complaint, the Chengalpattu police went through the CCTV footage recovered from the locality and found six men on three bikes taking away the two pillars.Â
Police traced the suspects using the registration numbers of the bikes and arrested them. They were identified as Kannan (27), Rajkumar (35), Prakash (26), Raja (24), and Anandan (27). They told the police they hadÂ
sold the wood to a timber merchant for Rs 50,000.Â
